Mitsubishi Repair: no heat in Galant, weird noise, heater fan

Question
hi there. i have a 2002 mitsu. Galant. there was a weird noise coming from the dash when i would turn on the heat. now i have no heat at all. but the car still has AC just fine and when i turn it to heat it is still AC. could it be a failing heater shut off motor? or possible even the bottons are stuck. i have checked and the doors are opening and closing fine so i know it is not that. please help that you!

Answer
Amber:The weird sound is most likely the heater fan in that you need a new one. Or else get some one to try putting some grease on the motor. Let's try working on the easy things first and then do the hard. Because one, your car is not the old and two, a new heater unit would cost an arm, leg. First off have the thermostat replaced, it could be sticking and so your car is not gettng the water to move around like it should. Also I would get the belt checked that moves the water pump and even have that checked too, as the water pump could be going. So you can turn the buttons just that you only get cold air when you turn it to heat. It does sound like the thermostat is sticking. Now you will have to get a shop to change that thermostat for you. Once at the shop to get the thermostat changed then tell the shop about the weird noise coming from under the dash and get them to check that too. But it sounds like to me that your heater fan is making noise. They will often need to be geased or replaced. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
