Mitsubishi Repair: 97 eclipse, auto antenna, autozone

Question
I have a 97 eclipse I just bought 77k miles. the radio shorted out, i think ebcause the auto antenna was not working, now a day after that my engine light came on, is it going to be tied to this electrical probelm, or will it be more? I tried a recommendation to turn the ignition on-off-on-off-on and count the blinks of the light to determine the error code, but there is no blinking? Thanks

Answer
Jeff: Got to say I have never heard of the radio shorting out because of the auto antenna. Some of the Eclipse radios are just bad. You seem to see more cars with the radios replaced in them then the company radio. With that said are you sure the radio shorted out. Or did you blow a fuse is all? The auto antenna not working is really no reason for the radio to short out. Have your checked the fuse for that auto antenna? As for the engine light being on, the computer has found a problem in the system. Could be anything but don't think it has much to do with the radio. You should have the car coded, by a shop. They would hook your car's computer up to their computer and then there would be kick out as to what the computer of your car is picking up in the system. Never had much luck with that ignition on-off-on-off bit and count the blinks of the light to determine the error code. So I would get the car coded, you got an AutoZone close by? Some of them will code your car for free. So might give that a shot or find a shop that will code the car. You really need to find out what the check engine light is on for. I think it is more for a sensor being out. As for the radio, I would take the car to a place that could test the radio to see if it has really shorted out or it is some other problem. Oh hey, check those fuses first though, please. Thanks. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
