Mitsubishi Repair: fuel pump power failure, starter solenoid, electronic ignition system

Question
I have checked the mpi and ignition fuses on my 1992 eclipse, the pump wont turn on with the key. i installed a new pump. i jumped it over with ahot wire and the pump works. i cant find the efi relay, also the key wont turn the starter, i took the starter off and had it tested. it tests ok. when i hit the key the starter solenoid just clicks. the engine isnt locked up. the starter is installed perfectly. i put the car in gear and jumped the starter over and the starter turned the engine over. the car lunged forward. i think it is a relay somewhere. i just dont know how to fix it or even where it is located on the car. can you please help me?

Answer
Keith: You need to have the computer checked, after all the relays, and what not the computer controls the fuel pump. You should also check the electronic ignition system, sounds like you have a problem with it. Could be the solenoid is bad, if it just clicks. Or it is not getting enough power to kick the starter into kicking the engine over.  You know that Mitsubishi farmed out the building of their computers to another company, that company did not build very good ones. A piece will start to leak into the computer and with time it kills off the computer. With the fact that the computer controls the fuel pump, I would get the computer checked out. That is called coding, take the car to a shop or buy a voltmeter, get a manual on the codes and then code your car. As for the relays, there are three black boxes in with the engine. One on the driver's side over by the firewall, two others one with the battery and one of the other side of the car. In those boxes are relays and large fuses. Each box has a cover and on that cover is what is in each box. I would check those also. But as long as you are having all kinds of troubles with your car, and the computer controls everything in that car. I would check that computer. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
