Question
Hi Linda,
my local garage has just quoted me £200($400)to fit new 3mm lash adjusters, the quote is for labour only and said i would need to supply the following parts as well??  head gasket kit and timing belt kit, but do these need to be changed at the same time as the lifters.
Also after about 10 mins driving my break pads grab the discs  and the pedle becomes very hard to press, i have to pull over wait 20 mins for it to cool, any advice would be greatful,
thanks Gaz UK

Answer
Gaz: It is costly to keep a car going. Yes I would change the head gasket and timing belt at the same time as doing the lifters. You can not re-use the old parts once they are so old.I mean it is better to have a new gasket and a new timing belt. You should try to buy yourself a repair manual for your car. Most parts stores have them or try on line. But then you could read up on what needs to be done to your car and so understand it better. As for the brake problems you need to replace them too. I would say that your brake pads are down to the steel, the discs become very hot when you use the brakes. One of these days, it will not work to cool them as the pads will be stuck to the discs. So get a brake job done on your car, please. It will come down to the fact that you will have no brakes when you really need them. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
