Mitsubishi Repair: Hot Engine!!, radiator core, radiator cap

Question
QUESTION: I own an Eclipse 200 gt, it has the v6 3.0 engine.. and the problem is that when i start it.. it takes about 5 minutes to get hot .. i have already cheked all the cooling system.. i changed th thermostat,, the radiator and the water pump.. but it keeps getting very very hot.. i dont know what it is.. please help

ANSWER: Hector: The way for an engine is cool down, well there is many ways. But let's say you are sitting at a drive though, so the car must cool its self. There are two fans that kick in, so have you checked those fans. I would say that neither of them are working, it could be the fans, or the relay that is to kick them on or something on that order. You need to get those fans to start and so cool down the engine. One fan is just for the engine and one is when you are running the ac. Also looked up overheating in my repair manual... insufficient coolant in system, water pump faulty, radiator core blocked or grille restricted, the electric coolant fan blades broken or cracked, radiator cap not maintaining proper pressure and ignition timing incorrect. So there are some ideas to check too. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda

Answer
Hector: Oh man, It has been a long holiday. I really am not thinking so good after my crash in a parking lot a month ago. But look I bet the reason your engine is so hot, is that your engine has blew its head gasket. So you would have to either replace that and then should rebuild the engine you have. Or get a different one. I am really sorry about that, I am just getting up to speed on things. If the engine is getting so hot, it sounds like it is something you can not fix. I mean an engine getting that hot each time you start the car or use the car; is just going to cause more damage to the whole engine. Wish I had better news for you. Linda
