Mitsubishi Repair: mitsubushi eclipse, o2 sensor, fuel filter

Question
QUESTION: I recently bought a 1198 eclipse with 130000 or so mile on it. the light for th ac just started blinking today, why?, also a p0135 code came up when i checked because the check engine light also came on tiday, which is an o2 sensor but which one and how do i find out, is there more than one.? thats not it? my power stering also appeared to have gone out, could it be the power stering filter? the power stering fluid is full? thats all for now i think, thanks for your help??

ANSWER: Philippd1: The light for the ac, could be you are low on coolant for the ac. But if your power steering had gone out, could be the belt is slipping that runs both the power steering and the ac. So the reason the light has come on for the ac. You need to check that belt, you could have broke that belt, it is slipping or else the belt needs to be replaced. There is one 02 sensor, if you had the car coded to learn of the sensor; you could have had them show you were it it. But should be kind of down and in front of the engine. But do you know what an 02 sensor looks like? You need to go out and buy yourself a repair manual for this car. It will explain all kinds of things to you, has pictures and will walk you through things to do with repair. Most parts stores have them, they cost around $20.00 and well worth the money. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda

QUESTION: i have also been smelling a burning smell coming from my 1998 mit eclipse. i recently noticed the rpms doesnt match my speed, i mean i can give it gas and rpms go up and speed barely goes up, slowly, is my clutch going out too? i thought it might have been because of my oxygen sensor messing up my gas mixture being off or what not? i did the whole battery thing before you mentioned it and now sometimes it idles funny, i read this is normal, do you agree? i think i bought a lemon? do you think that o2 sensor would effect rpms and speed, n e way to check my clutch? guess thats it for now thanks again and again!!!

Answer
Philippd1: You know the clutch in that car is a hydraulic clutch, so if you can smell something burning, you might have a leak in the hydraulic and there for it is putting the oil into the engine. You need to check to see if the reservoir is loosing fluid(hydraulic oil). The reservoir is a box over in the same area as the brake fluid box. There is a way to test the clutch to see if it ok, but a shop will have to do that. When is the last time you did a tune up on this car. The 02 sensor does help the computer deciede what the ratio for the air/fuel miture should be. But there is another sensor what could be weak and maybe going out it is called a Throttle Postion Sensor. So that might be the problem with the rpms and speed. Or you should have your fuel pump checked. You know don't you that the fuel is what cools the pump, a lot of people these days are running their cars down to empty before filling them up. And we have been replacing a lot fuel pumps of late. But you can have that pump tested to see if it is putting out enough fuel. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
