Mitsubishi Repair: 98 Mitsubishi Galant, mitsubishi galant, crank sensor

Question
Hi there, my problem occured while driving down the road, going about 30 mph, when all of a sudden my rpms starting dropping drastically and I wasn't able to press the gas or the brake in order to pull over. My oil, brake, and engine light came on and finally died out. I was unable to restart the car, but it sounded like it wanted to. PLEASE HELP!!

Answer
Apryl: Hello. You need to have your car coded. I would say either the computer has got a problem or there could be some bad sensors someplace in the engine. It takes three things for an engine to go down the road; fuel, air and stark. But the computer has to put that all together with the help of all those sensors. But  something you could try is to take the distributor cap loose, turn it either right or left; then see if the car will start. If it does that it could be that the distributor cap needs to be replaced. In that distributor cap is a sensor called the crank sensor. But still you should have the car coded, to do that means you go to a place; they hook their computer up to your car's computer. And then your car's computer will kick out a read out and you will know what is going on with your car. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
