Mitsubishi Repair: screwy clutch, mitsubishi galant, clutch pedal

Question
I have a 96 mitsubishi galant. For awhile my car wouldn't crank unless I pushed the clutch in down and to the right. The peddle itself feels pretty loose but its so screwy under there I don't see how to adjust it. Now, sometimes it will crank when I push it in that funny way and sometimes it will not. Im just not sure what the problem is or how to adjust the thing.

Answer
Trey: This is right from my repair manual... master or release cylinder faulty, hose/pipe burst or leaking, connections leaking, not much fluid in the reservoir, if the fluid in reservoir rises as pedal is depressed, master cylinder center valve seal is faulty, if the clutch pedal feels spongy when depressed could be air in the line and so bleed the system. You know that your clutch in this car is a hydraulic clutch right? Have you checked the fluid to see if you are loosing any? There is an adjustment on that clutch pedal and I am wondering if maybe the locknut for that has come loose, so you should climb down well get your head under the dash to see if you can find that locknut for adjusting the clutch pedal. As you are to adjust and check the freeplay every 6000 miles or 6 months. But I know for a fact most people don't. So that might be your problem too. To adjust the freeplay, reach up under the dash, loosen the locknut and adjust the clutch pedal pushrod until the freeplay is correct, then tighten the locknut securely. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
