Mitsubishi Repair: 95 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL Spyder Retractable Hard Top, mitsubishi 3000gt, leak water

Question
I just bought this car, and I used the retractable hard top maybe five times before it stopped working properly.  What happens is, the top comes all the way closed, and sounds like it latches, however the rear windows do not slide into place and the light for the hardtop blinks and it beeps double time.  Manual says to check for obstructions (none) to push up on the hard top (it feels latched)  I tried opening it all the way and closing it again several times, and also let the car sit for awhile and came back and tried again.  Any ideas what could be causing this?  I'm not sure if it ever had this problem before and the dealership might have done something to fix it until I got home.  Thanks for your help!

Answer
Andrew: I wish I had better news for you. There is a site called mitsubishisucks.com and there is all kinds of recalls on those tops. But also people very upset with them. Maybe you should ask the dealership what they did to get the top closed. There is a law in some states if you are not happy with the car, you can take it back. But maybe you like the car other than the top. I have got letters from people where their tops leak water, in odd places too and all kinds of things. But then again you might have a sensor that is not working right or a wire that is messed up. I would say take it back to the dealership where you bought it and ask about the top. Or explain what is going on, they might be able to help you. Are you sure there is no obstuctions? I mean that is what it sounds like to me. Maybe something you are over looking. Sometimes it helps to get another person to check things out for you. I mean they might see something you are missing. Only an idea on my part, not saying you are blind or anything. But something has to be catching for that top not to go all the way down like it is doing. What would happen if you put the rear windows down, put the top down and then raised the rear windows? Would they go into place then? I just don't do much with hard tops so again just an idea here. I do hope this helps and good luck! Linda
