Mitsubishi Repair: Misubishi 3000 GT repair question, crank sensor, repair question

Question
Linda,

My car will start for about 5 seconds and then die out.  I am located in Japan and the car just started acting this way after a recent typhoon.  Could it be possible there may be some water somewhere that is causing this to happen? If so where should I check.  If not water is there anything else you can reccomend?

Thank you,

Scott

Answer
Scott: I would check the distributor cap, to see if it got water in it or is wet inside. There is a crank sensor in the distributor cap, which might have got to wet to work so you might have to replace it. A good tune up would most likely do wonders for your car, stark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. If your car is a newer one and no distributor then replace the piece that replaced the distributor. As you did not put down the year of the car. Could be water got pushed or blew into the gas tank. But still I would think the car would start just run like hell. But never gone through a typhoon. So you might have to replace the fuel filter few times to clean out all the water. Also check the air filter it might be wet too. There are some ideas for you, I hope something helps you. If not water you ask something else. Well is there any lights on, on the dash such as a check engine light. Because it could be a weak or bad sensor someplace. You could have the car coded to see what the computer kicks out for you. That might explain things too. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
