Mitsubishi Repair: Eclipse lighter, eclipse gt, yourselfs

Question
I just purchased a 2002 Eclipse GT.  The lighter doesn't work.  Changed the fuse; still doesn't work.

Is this a repair I (or me and my Dad) can do ourselves?  I have an ipod that I like to use in the car when I drive.  It gets its power from the lighter.

Answer
Dan: I bet there is a wire broke off or maybe loose in behind the lighter or the lighter itself could be bad. So you will have to take apart the piece that the lighter sits in and check to see if everything is hooked up as it should be. You need to do a continutiy check, with a light. As to make sure that if power is getting to the lighter. If you find that there is, then you might have to just take that lighter out and replace it with another lighter. They are not very costly and I believe that either you or your Dad could do this yourselfs. Surely your Dad has checked to see if things are getting power using self-powered continutiy tester? It is kind of hard to explain, but it has two wires on it and then a small light, if there is power getting to the lighter than the light will come on. But if the lighter will still not work, then replace the lighter and if no power is coming to the lighter, then check for the break in the wiring someplace. Do remember though if you replace the lighter, to take the neg cable off the battery before starting work, then put it back on when you are done. Don't want either of you to get a shock. Hope this helps and good luck! Got to hear those tunes! ~Linda~
