Mitsubishi Repair: eclipse gs, chrysler motor, carfacts

Question
im looking at a 1995 eclipse gs, the one with the Chrysler motor in it. the car has 54,000 miles on it. i was wondering that even though it has low miles on it will the age of the car nickel and dime me to death? the car hasn't seen a winter im told and it has never had any major problems. what are some of the problem areas of these cars?

Answer
Jay: When you say it never has seen winter are you meaning they never drove it in the winter? Or do you mean it went south for the winter? You need to get the VIM number off the car and check it out with... well I don't remember right off the top of my head what it is called. But something like Carfacts or something like that. It is on line. As it would be able to tell you if this car was in a crash or something. The low miles which is nice, but still one does wonder why they did not drive it much. Or if they did try and it keep going into the shop, maybe. Well just a guess on my part. You do not say if it is a clutch or auto. Some cars have a lot of troubles with the auto transmission but others don't. It is really hard to say here. I do know that Mitsubishi farmed the building of the computers out to another company and it did not build very good ones; as with time these computers break down. But hey if you are getting this car for a fair cost, I would think you could easier replace the computer if you had to do that. Most cars I work on, have well over 100,000 miles on them. And the sensors are starting to go. But they don't last forever. I really think these little cars if taken care of will almost run forever. Well almost. I had one the other day in the shop, the lady said this light was on in the dash and she could not understand what it was. Well, heck it was her oil light and how long the car had been without oil; I don't know. But the engine was making some knocking noises but not to bad. We put in some oil, the sounds stopped and the old gal is still running that car down the road. So they are bad ass little cars. Hope this helps and good luck! ~Linda~ Ps. Please excuse my remark on the bad ass bit, but they are!
