Mitsubishi Repair: overheating, radiator cap, head gasket

Question
Over the summer sometime my gauge was going to hot and I would have no heat but there was no smoke coming out of the car.  Before this happened I had the water pump and the belt for the pump changed.  When I started having this problem the waterpump was changed again which did not solve the problem.  So I started using another mechanic that I know.  He changed the heating core which also didnt help.  Then he replaced a fan and a plug.  Also I've had the thermostat changed a few times.  So yestardy the car started overheating on me.  The gauge went to hot and I heard a pop, all smoke was coming out.  I'm not sure if the pop was just the cap for antifreeze from the heat.  Although the car was starting I didn't want to drive it so I had it towed to the mechanic.  The car is there was we speak.  Any ideas on what this problem can be?

Answer
Christina: Sounds like the head gasket is weak and could have popped. I would have the shop where ever the car went to, to check that. Also do a engine pressure check, that would show a lot too. But also check the radiator cap, it has to be the right one for your car's engine. And it really does help with the heating or not heating of your car. It sounds like you blew the radiator cap or it let go with the pop; it was either the head gasket or the radiator cap. Also you should check how much coolant is in the car too, that is very important for the cooling of a car too.  Should also check and make sure the belts are working right and not slipping. As they help keep thigns going and cool too. Hope this helps and good luck! ~Linda~
