Mitsubishi Repair: 2001 Mitsubushi Montero Sport Air Condition Belt, montero sport, mitsubushi

Question
I have a 2001 Mitsubushi Montero Sport that we are trying to replace the air conditioner belt. We can't figure out how to get the tensioner to loosen in order to get the belt to slip into place.

Answer
Jen: I mostly work on older cars, but surely they can not be that much different then your 2001 model. So my repair manual says this... either loosen a locking bolt or nut at the center of the tension pulley,it looks to me that if you loosen the alternator, you should be able to get things loose enough to get the belt on. Be sure and check the other belt to see how it is or you might be doing this again down the road. I hope this helps. If you are going to work on your car, you really should go out and buy yourself a repair manual. Most parts stores sell them for around $20.00. Oh hey it is always righty tighty or loosey lefty. Hope this helps some and good luck! ~Linda~
