Mitsubishi Repair: Starter or Distributer, crank sensor, distributor cap

Question
Hey, My name is Eddye, I'm in the marine corps, and my car isn't starting, you can hear it cranking, but it wont turn over, I'm thinking Starter, but my roommate is thinking distributor. We just changed the spark plugs, but they're not even getting a spark. Do you think it's the Starter or Distributor, and where is the starter?

Answer
Eddye: If you can hear the car cranking than the starter is working. The starter is what turns the engine so it will start. But if the plugs are not getting any stark, then the engine will not start. I would change the distributor and the rotor too. Don't know what kind of a car this is or engine or miles. But there is a crank sensor in the distributor, so buying a new one as well as a new rotor. Should bring the stark to the plugs and your car should start. Unless there is something else wrong. You can follow the + cable off the battery and find the starter that way. But I still think it is your distributor cap and rotor. You know don't you when you change the stark plugs you should  change the stark plug wires too? Remember now, when changing the wires, you do one at a time so you do not mix them up. I do hope this helps and I shall keep you in my prayer too. I stand behind the troops 100%. Linda
