Mitsubishi Repair: 96 mirage code p0170, throttle position sensor, vacuum leak

Question
I have a 96 mitsu. mirage with a 1.5 liter and I am getting code p0170 fuel trim malfunction bank 1 and no power on take off but after about 20 mph the car runs fine. I was wondering what the problem could be. There are no manifold leaks I have checked every thing I can think of. Thanks for the help.

Answer
Mark: Oh gee, I am sorry but my repair manual danced all around that code. I found it but it just gave me the same that you sent, the fuel trim malfunction bank 1. About as clear as mud. But I did do a bit of hunting in thee old manual and came up with some ideas to check. And I hope these help you. Sorry to say tonight I am tired and my computer needs a large kick as it is as slow as.. oh well the list for you. Idle Air Control motor, could be a vacuum leak, throttle position sensor, change the fuel filter?, check the injector on 1, EGR solenoid system has a problem and your catalytic converter is going bad. No leaks but they do sometimes just go bad. No miles on your car so I guess that would be something to check out. I really am sorry, I could not get set in stone; the idea what your code is. I will see if I can find my code book on Tuesday well more Wed. now as I will be gone all day on Tuesday. But see if I can find out more, I shall send you an update. But mean while if the car has no power on start up or take off. You remember it takes three things to get that car down the road; stark, air and fuel. But the computer and whole group of sensors to bring it all together. I would be checking that Idle Air Control motor. Hey maybe you could set the throttle up a bit on the idle and see what happens with that. It is really easy to set those cars, just becareful and not get carried away. As there is a screw just behind the engine, close to the throttle. I do hope this helps some anyway. Have a good day now! Linda
