Mitsubishi Repair: Electrical problem, mitsubishi galant, aftermarket stereo

Question
Ok. I just installed an aftermarket stereo in my 2001 mitsubishi galant. After doing so my windows and door locks didnt work. Niether did the dash lights or Dome light. Inspecting the fuses I found a couple that were blown all were replaced. My dash lights came on but my windows and door locks still dont work. on top of that, my stereo doesnt work now either. What do you reccomend I do?? Hope you can help in my dilemma. Thank you.

Joseph: My guess is that you blew a relay, those are in with the engine. As you open the hood, there should be one up on the firewall on the driver's side of the car. They are black boxes, and should tell on the covers what are in them. Such as what relays and larger fuses they cover. Some cars have two of those boxes and other three. Then again standing in front of the car, with the hood open there should be another box by the battery and maybe aother one up on the firewall on the right side of the car. If none of those relays are bad, or the larger fuses. I would say you have caused a short then you hook up that new stereo. About the only thing you can do, is get a repair manual for your car; they cost around $20.00 at any parts store. And a voltmeter. You will need the repair manual to explain what readings you need. And you will have to check those wires from the stereo to the car. If you blew some the fuses, you had to have done something to cause those fuses to blow and that voltmeter would show you that. Other wise if you blew the smaller fuses, you could have taken out the larger fuses and/or the relays under the hood too. If you do find a relay that you have to repace under the hood. Remember to take the neg cable off the battery and then put it back on; once the new relay is put in. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
