Mitsubishi Repair: Mitsubishi eclipse 98, mitsubishi eclipse gs, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
I own a 98 Mitsubishi eclipse GS that runs fine, have almost no issues with it, but am worried about one thing.  When I start the vehicle, I get some whitish blue, thin smoke, that sticks around for a little while while driving, but does go away.  The car just passed emissions, so it doesn't seem to be a big deal, just wanting to make sure.  Also, the car seems to use a little more oil than normal.  I don't have a whole lot of experience with cars, but would like to learn, am willing to do what work I can.  Anything you can tell me would be appreciated.
Thanks

Randay: If you want to learn about your car, then you should go out and buy yourself a repair manual for your car, year and model. They cost around $20.00 and well worth the money. Can buy one at most parts stores. Whenever my sons get a new or different car; I always get them a repair manual for that car. But anyway, the whitish blue, thin smoke bothers me some. As the is the color of smoke that is the sign your head gasket is getting weak. I think I would have that checked out, just before it that goes you will have to have it replaced and it would be hard on the motor. You say the car uses a bit of oil but does it heat some? Another thing to check would be the valve covers too, sometimes they will leak a bit of oil and so then the car will use some. But you should have that head gasket checked just to rule out any problem with it. You say it does it when you first start the car, so the engine is cold. So once the engine warms a bit, the smoke goes away. Yes, I would get that head gasket checked just to be on the safe side. Any shop should be able to check that for you. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
