Mitsubishi Repair: noise after repair, clutch plates, cambelt

Question
I recently had my Colt 1.5 serviced and the cambelt replaced as per service manual requirements. Since its return it sounds like a diesel engine ticking and tapping all the time. The Mechanic suggests this will be o.k. when everything is bedded in,I'm not sure I'm happy about this.Is he right?

Answer
Jan: I would take your car to another shop and see what they tell you. But I don't agree with your mechanic, if your car was quiet running before all this work was done it should now too. I wonder if this mechanic did not put something in wrong or else messed up something else when doing the work. I think the engine should run smooth and quiet as it did before. Some of these cars and not sure about your colt with this, but some of them have different size bolts that hold things in, sometimes a mechanic gets in a rush and does not put the right bolts back into  their right spots and so with time these bolts will work out. You do not want that cambelt to break it would take your engine. I guess I would find another shop and let them see what is going on. Or tell that mechanic you do not agree with what he said and you want the car checked out. I know with clutch plates it takes a bit of time for it to seat its self. But not a cambelt. Not if the car was quiet running before it went in to be fixed. It should not be sounding like a diesel engine now. So no I do not think he is right. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
