Mitsubishi Repair: TPS on a 1991 Plymouth Laser, throttle position sensor, brake fluid reservoir

Question
I was sent here when looking for info on a 1991 Plymouth Laser. Noticed the Hayes book is for Laser and Eclipse.. so.. here goes a shot.

I have a 1991 Plymouth Laser 2.0 Dual-Cam. Every time I come to a stop, it dies. Idles about 500 rpm. If I manually idle the car at 1000 rpm, it will not shut off. I was told to adjust the TPS (throttle position sensor) to raise the RPM, which I hope will keep the car from killing off at every red light or stop sign. Problem is.. where do I find the TPS? Is this something I can do myself? I heard it was really simple to do, but to be honest, I have no clue where I am to look or even what it looks like. Thanks for any information that may be of use. :)

Answer
Jerry: I have a Haynes book which is for 1990-1994, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Plymouth Laser and the Eagle Talon. I can give you an idea but a manual would sure help you more... I would too go someplace and have your car coded, so that you can make sure if it might be the throttle position sensor that is getting weak. What you got to do, is look behind the engine, to the well wait a minute, when standing looking at the engine, look to the left side of the engine being your left too, you will see the battery sitting over there. Ok, when to your right and also the right of the engine would be the brake fluid reservoir, between that and battery. I know that is a large space, so still you will have to look behind the engine, that is why a repair manual would help you. So it is hard to explain to you, but still look in that area, you should be able to find the throttle body, there is a screw that you can turn up but just a bit. Of course if the throttle position sensor is getting weak, this will only help it for a bit before things won't work so good. It is simple to do, just don't get carried away. Ok? Good. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
