Mitsubishi Repair: 92 Eclipse, vacuum line, vacuum leak

QUESTION: My car is surging at idle and sometimes while driving, The check enging light comes on for a few seconds then shuts off, How can I read the codes on a 92 ?
ANSWER: Gary: Need a repair manual for your car and a voltmeter. That is how you can get the codes, or try a AutoZone some of those stores can read the codes on an older car and they don't charge a thing for doing this. Other wise it is the voltmeter and that manual. Oh Sears sells some good voltmeters too. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda

QUESTION: AutoZone dosen't do pre 95, I have a volt meter and manual but it looks like a scope you need. It dosen't say what reedings you would get on a volt meter, I have another question also, If you look at the fuel rail, on the drivers side you have a  1/2" return line and a 1/4" vacuum line. where does the vacuum line go ?

Gary: Ok, I work on older Eclipses and my manual runs from 1990-1994 and I see your car is a 1995. In my manual which is a Haynes, it does something like this... oxgyen sensor to produce a voltage output with varies from 0.1 - volt(high oxygen, lean mixture)to 0.9 - volts (low oxygen, rich mixture). You could take your car to any shop and they could put your car on their computer to get a read out for you. But of course you will have to pay for it. As I had a friend that took her Ford which was a 1993 and they did that for her. And your car is newer than that. Still think you have a weak sensor someplace. Or hey maybe you got a vacuum leak, that would make the car surging at idle too. But you will have to check your repair manual to find where that vacuum line goes. Sometimes different models will have something but your car was not one of those models but they still added some of the line for that piece anyway. But still I know I am not sounding like a lot of help here. And I am sorry, but if you do have a vacuum leak, you will have to get a shop to find the problem anyway. As they are often than not very hard to find.Hope this helps you some and good luck! Linda
