Mitsubishi Repair: Rear Brakes, rear disc brakes, 2000 montero sport

Question
I have a 2000 Montero Sport Limited. I need to change the read brake pads. I notice that there are 2 pins that hold the pads in place, I can not remove the pins. I was wondering if you have any experiance with this.

Answer
Rob,
Most rear disc brakes are the same.  There are 2 bolts that hold the calipers together, which secure the pads.  These bolts must be removed in order replace your pads.  If the bolts are really stuck due to rust, you can use a good penetrating oil (I recommend PB Blaster) and soak them overnight.  That can help break the rust free.  But if you feel you have to work too hard to remove the bolts, take the car to a mechanic to do it.  If all you need is the rear pads replaced, that should be fairly inexpensive, even if done by a mechanic.
Good luck!
