Mitsubishi Repair: 93 eagle summit, eagle summit, crank sensor

Question
I bought a 1993 eagle summit Lx (the 3 door station wagon) a few weeks ago... One day the car wouldn't start - it would crank, but not turn over.  I pumped the gas pedal while cranking and the car started... for the most part, every morning has required the same to start it... Then one morning it would not start even with the pumping of the pedal... I added about a gallon of gas and then it started up (w/ pumping the pedal of course).  The past few days its been raining, and even though the car has gas it won't turn over at all. (It started yesterday though - there was no rain)... I'm at a loss

Answer
Patrick: You need to have your car coded, just to rule out any problems with the computer or the sensors. AutoZone will do this for free. When is the last time you did a good tune up? Stark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. There is a crank sensor in the distributor cap, you might try taking the screws loose and turn the cap either to the left or right to see if the car will start. You should have your fuel pump tested to see if it is putting out enough fuel for your car. You are one of those people what will let the tank get down to "E" before putting in fuel. And hey with the high cost of fuel, who isn't these days. But did you know the fuel is what keeps the pump cool? So do that to much and you will burn out the pump. With the rain makes me think of a bad stark plug wire or more; so the stark was not going to the engine but someplace else. And useing the water as it traveled route. Also you know don't you that Mitsubishi farmed out the building of their computers to another company and they did not build very good ones. With time a piece will start to leak into the computer and so that will kill off the computer. So that might be your problem as for the reason for the coding. That is where they hook a computer up to your car's computer, then paperwork is kicked out explaining what is going on with your car's computer and it's sensors. So try some these and see what happens. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
