Mitsubishi Repair: Timing belt change at 60K really??, case trust, timing belts

Question
Hi,
Just took the 2003 Spyder in for maintenance and they said since it has 60K its time to change the timing belt.  I'm not an all trusting person when it comes to suggestions like this, so does it really need changed at 60K.  This seems very low mileage for a timing belt.

Thanks

Jeff

Answer
Jeff: Look maybe your car is not that old or have that much for miles. But trust me, most cars have a set times in their books for having things done. I would have the timing belt done. Because if it breaks while going down the road, you will be doing a valve job or be replacing the engine. Because then those timing belts go, it does nasty things to your engine. In this case trust me and get it done, you will feel better knowing it is done when your car turns 100,000K. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
