Mitsubishi Repair: Burning Smell, valve covers, summer weather

Question
Every time I get out of my car after driving, I always smell a burning smell......almost like its oil burning, but I know its not and there is no smoke unless its raining outside.

Answer
Chris: I would say either your valve covers are leaking the oil, just a small amount so it falls on the hot engine and then you get that burning smell. Or you PCV valve needs to be replaced, but if you are getting smoke when it rains that sounds like those covers. What it is, is a gasket in those covers has worn away and so you need to put the car into a shop to get that gaskets replaced. It is something you should have checked another wise with hot Summer weather coming, it could get hot enough to start a fire. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
