Answer
Tyrone: Just what you need is another person telling you something. I just don't understand why shops and dealerships can't be more honest with a customer. I wonder if your car's problem was not due to a bad switch or a sensor out someplace. Don't think they needed to overhaul your transmission because it worked fine unless you tried to put in into overdrive, right? I would say if they had the car and worked on it; now your timing belt is broken. That they most likely caused it to go. But can your prove that? I don't know, if the car is jumping into gear or into two gears. I don't see how that would work. So I would say that; that sure could cause the timing belt to go. You need to get a repair manual for your car, and read up on how all this works. You would better understand your car and how everything works together. You then could go to the shop and the dealership armed with what you found out from the repair manual. And do some talking with these people. Someone should step forward and be willing if nothing else to take some of the cost of replacing that timing belt for you. I would have have the car coded surely that dealership could do that for you. That would rule out any problem with a sensor(s) or the computer. As the check engine light comes on because the computer is picking up some trouble in the system. So have that checked. I am not sure what it would cost to replace the timing belt as I have no idea in your area, as each place it different. But call around and get the best deal that way. But again reading up on your car with that repair manual would be good for you too. You should be able to get a repair manual for your car at any parts store for around $20.00. And you should check on the interent to see if there might be a recall on your transmission on your car due to your problem. I shall check tonight and see what I can find. But still I understand that you love your car and you just want it back like it was. Hope this helps and good luck!
