Mitsubishi Repair: 2002 Mitsubishi Eclispe 3.0V6 GT, timing belt, water pump

Question
I' going to be replace the a/c and p/s belts. The car has 66,000 miles on it.  If I replace the Timing Belt too, should I also replace the original water pump?  And is the water pump  driven by the Timing Belt or one of the other belts?  Thanks Dave

Answer
Dave: Why replace the timing belt at 66,000 miles? I mean that is really low miles for a car. I really don't think about looking at the timing belt till say 100,000. But then if you want to replace the timing belt, I would change the water pump at the same time. Because if the water pump goes you have to take the cover off the timing belt to get to some of the bolts for the water pump. The water pump is drove by drive belt. The timing belt drives the engine which then drives all the other belts. Hopefully you are having someone else do this for you? As replacing the timing belt you have to get the right marks lined up and sometimes it is really hard to get this done. Hope this helps and good luck!
