Mitsubishi Repair: 1995 Eclipse Transmission, auto tranny, mitsubishi dealership

Question
QUESTION: I have a 95 Eclipse with an auto-transmission.
It recently started staying in 2nd gear and refusing to upshift on occasion regardless of the position of the transmission gear lever.
If the car is turned off and restarted it will then usually shift OK until it then acts up at a later time.
This transmission is computer controlled?
I plan to service the transmission fluid and filter.
Where is the transmission computer?
Are aftermarket computers available?
Thanks

ANSWER: Bill,
Your auto tranny is controlled by a computer.  I believe on your car it is located under the passenger side dash.  I don't think there are any after market vendors for those computers, so it would be best to inquire about them at your local Mitsubishi dealership parts department.
Good luck!

QUESTION: Is this a problem with the computer?.......or something else?

Answer
Bill,
This does sound like an electrical problem, but with something as complicated as an automatic transmission, you will need to have it inspected by a transmission shop or the dealership to get the definitive diagnosis.  It may be the the computer or some other electrical connection within the transmission.
Good luck!
