-----Question-----
the oil pump on my 4G63-B engine failed the other week, and it ruined all of my bearings both crank and rod bearings, I manage to replace all of them, and the car is running just fine now.

inspecting the old pump I cannot find any reson for it to fail, the gears and clearances are Ok, when I tried to hand crank it with the intake dipped in oil it pumps oil, though I cannot measure the pressure by just hand cranking the banace rod, but oil is squirting out of the pump when hand cranked, at the time of failure, my temperature is very minimum, just barely opening the thermostant valve, the filter is new and the oil is new,( I change the oil my self.

I use a multi grade oil 15W30 made for diesel, on my gas engine due to its exelent temp range and detergency.
never use oil flushing or additives I don't beleive in them

what do you think would cause my oil pump to fail?
-----Answer-----
Cezar: I would say the heavy weight oil, all cars have a set of oils, fuels and fluids that will work in them. That is why the car or truck companies set that up. The cars or trucks are geared to work with those set weights; but you can run anything like as the car is your's to do so. But then things happen. I do understand about the temp range but still that is a heavy weight oil. Hope this explains and good luck!

Followup Question.

Is a 15W30 for gas and a 15W30 for diesel have a diffrence in terms viscosity or weight?

A friend of mine Jimmy, had his 4G63 Evo, overhauled from an independent shop, now it runs slugish, though smooth, but it lacks the agressiveness of the 4G63, He asked me to verify the job, it seems that the timings are ok, compression is 123 to 126 Psi, ignition coil output is well at 25Kv, good plugs, I dont have a Dyno to verify the actual torque delivered other than that, I could not find anything amiss, but I have to agree with him, it lacks the agressiveness of the 4G63

Answer
Cezar:On the oil question I would say in viscosity. I did a write up on oil, the viscosity and weight in college. But that sure does not make me know all; about oil and oil pumps. I would say with your friend Jimmy, if he had his 4G63 Evo overhauled by an independent shop, and now it runs slugish but everything seems ok by you. I would take it back to that shop, sounds like they did not do something right. It is hard for me to say, without hearing the 4G63 Evo run and the such. Maybe with it just been overhauled it has to break it's self in a bit before it will get with the agressiveness. Maybe give it a little bit, other wise I would take it back to the shop and tell them just what you wrote me. And see what they say. Hope this helps and good luck!
