Hey this is Chris again, i have some good news, i got the car to spark so we have that now and it is bringing fuel to the motor. the fuel has been changed and the filter has too. now we need to figure out how to get the timing just right. we got the car to start spitting and sputtering but it just seems to me the timing is out of wack.. what is the correct way and the best way to set that timing. i am almost there i bet if the timing was almost right it would run, and if it would run i can have it correctly timed by a professional like yourself, so any ideas would help.. i really appreciate your help it seems to me that your help has been better than all the rest. thanks much.

-----Question-----
Hi i have a 1990 Galant 2.0 SOHC, we bought it from a friend and it had sat for a year. it started right up, we bought it for 365$ and drove it home. it ran great all the way home which is 8 miles. shut it off in the driveway and could never get it to fire back up. it will crank over just fine but it wont fire. we bought a ignition control module, that didnt work. we bought a Remanufactured Distributor and sent it to our mechanics in coldwater,MI and they got it to run but real bad. they shut it off and then it wouldnt start. We took the car to Harold Zeigler Mitsubishi, in Kalamazoo, MI and heres what they said. They said the 20 Amp MPI Pal Fuse keeps blowing. They also said it could be a number of things including the PCM. I have heard several different stories from different Mechanics and how do i know who to trust, ya know. So i figured you guys and girls could help.I am a very desperate person right now i bought the car for 365 bucks and its beautiful. it only has a 120,000 miles on it and no rust so if ya could help me i would appreciate it greatly.

Thanks your friends from Quincy,MI AKA the redneck capitol of the world. lol thanks

Christopher: The car sat for a year, and was never started in that year? Fuel in it's tank would have turned into something other than fuel by that time. But I do not think that is your problem. I think you need to have the car coded, AutoZone close by? They will code the car for free. You know don't you that Mitsubishi farmed out the building of their computers to another company. That company did not build good computers, there is a piece in the computer that will start with time to leak onto other things in the computer and so with time kill off the computer. I think your problem might be that computer. It controls everything in the car. With that fuse blowing, there must be a short someplace in the car. I know it is hard to trust people these days, most guys or gals want your money and if the car works in the end oh so cool. And if not, then it was something you did, not them. I can only give you some ideas on my part. But I would try to get the car coded to rule out any sensors or computer problems. I would get the fuel filter changed. Even get out all that old fuel out of the tank, start with new. I would do a tune up, is it an auto? If so changed the fluid and the filter there too. The computer controls the fire, by what the sensors through out the car's engine tells it. So if one or more sensors are weak, the computer would be messing up in the fire or not firing at all. What about the timing chain is it in good working order? You need to go out and buy yourself a repair manual, at any parts store for around $20.00. And read up on your car. You need to check the interent at all the sites on these little cars, then when you go to a shop. You would know when some one is pulling you leg with something or not. I shall give you my email address, if you want to write me with problems. You can use that. I try very hard to be honest with people, but I get my ideas and thought from my years of working on these cars as well as others; but also from all my reading and my repair manuals. I do hope this helps you and good luck. (oppedal50@yahoo.com)

Christopher: That repair manual would explain how to time your car and walk you through it. I like Haynes manual, they are much easier to understand. If you can not find a manual for your car at a parts store, then try your library most carry these manuals or something different but a manual just the same and you could read up on your car. Or else get a shop to it the timing. As you will have to buy a timing gun but you also need that repair manual. This is not the book that comes with the car, but rather a repair manual. The manual would explain where to hold the gun, what to watch for and how to know if you have it right. Hope this helps and good luck!

Answer
Christopher: There must be a short someplace in the line that that fuse controls. Fuses go when there is something wrong, and it wants to save the system. You need to get that repair manual and that voltmeter. Starting with the battery work yourself around the car, till you find the short. The manual will explain the readings that you should be getting with the voltmeter. Sears sells some good ones that do not cost an arm and a leg; but easy to understand. You have to do this or get a shop to do it. As you need to see what is causing that fuse to go. Have you ever had the car coded? To see if there might be a weak sensor or more someplace. Or a problem with your computer in your car? Hope this helps you and good luck!
