Mitsubishi Repair: Tranny grinding, clutch gear, clutch pedal

Question
I just installed a different tranmission on my 97 2.0 gs non-turbo eclipse.  The only problem now is that i grinding occurs when i shift to second gear and only second gear. I try to avoid this by slow-shifting. The tranny fluids are at the appropriate level, so im wondering if there are any adjustments I could make to the clutch/ gear cables, and if so how?  i have a general idea, but would really appreciate advice from an expert. Thanks

Sal:The check should be checked every 6000 miles for freeplay and height on your clutch. You measure the clutch pedal height(the distance from the top of the clutch pedal to the floor). If the pedal height is not correct, reach under the dash and loosen the locknut until the adjusting bolt(non-crusie control) or clutch switch (cruise control) turns freely. Turn the adjusting bolt or the switch to achieve the specifited pedal height. Need to get a repair manual for your car to know that. But then you put in the tranmission so you should have one of those manual. Press down lightly on the clutch pedal and, with a small steel ruler, measure the distance that it moves freely before the clutch resistance is felt. The freeplay should be within the limits listed in your car's specifications. If it isn't, is must be adjusted. To adjust the freeplay, reach up under the dash, loosen the locknut and adjust the clutch pedal pushrod until the freeplay is correct, then tighten the locknut securely. That came out of my repair manual. If that is not your problem. I could be your tranmission had that problem in it before it was put into your car. Your master or release cylinder faulty, hose or pipe burst or leaking, connection leaking, master cylinder center valve seal is fautly or broken release bearing or fork is bad. There is a way to make adjustments but you need to get your car's repair manual as it will show you how to do this. Every car is different. I work on mostly 1990 to 1994 cars. Hope this helps and good luck!
