Mitsubishi Repair: 2001 mitsubishi eclipse, mitsubishi eclipse, body doesn

I have a 2001 eclipse with a passenger door the doesn't seem to latch right. It sounds like the latch is hitting the catch but I don't see any evidence. When the door is latched it doesn't look like it is closed all the way. ( it sticks out about 1/4 inch from body. Doesn't' feel like the hinges are loose is there something that is common i should check for?

Luke: Any chance the door was caught on something?  Or someone was hanging on the door? Other wise I would check the latches, they sound like they are letting the door hang down to far to catch the latch. Try picking the door up from the other end. My manual says that you can make adjustments on the door, both up and down as well as in and out. By loosing the doors side hinge bolts but you might need a special tool to reach some of the bolts. You can also move the door lock striker too. Your car is not to old, maybe you should have the dealership or a shop fix this for you. Hope this helps and good luck!
