Answer
Greg: Hello, not a great time to be with no heat. I would say your thermostat needs to be replaced. If the thermostat is not moving the water in the engine like it should, your car's heater core could be getting so hot that it is melting the flame restant material covering the firewall and causing the smoke you see. I would say you need to get that car into a shop someplace and get this fixed before you have a fire. I had a car catch fire in behind the dash and it is a mess when that happens. You do not want that to happen. Though my car's fire was due to a bad heater fan and that is not your problem. But you know they do say where there is smoke the fire can not be far behind. "SO PLEASE GET YOUR CAR INTO A SHOP; TO GET FIXED AND CHECKED OUT"! Hope this helps and good luck!
