Mitsubishi Repair: High beam headlights, eclipse spyder, how to use a voltmeter

Question
Hi, I have a 2001 Eclipse Spyder GT automatic. I can't get the high beam headlamps to work. When I pull the column switch the blue light on the dash lights up and if the fog lights are on, they turn off. But no high beams. I have replaced both lamps on an outside chance that both high beams had burned out. Regular lights work fine. I have checked all the fuses and they appear fine. One of the plugs at the bulb was slightly melted, so I replaced it but still no luck. Any suggestions for me? Thanks, Marty

Answer
Marty,
The best thing to do is to test the circuit for the high beams.  If you have, and know how to use, a voltmeter, you can test your circuit starting at the connection harness for the bulb.  Then, work your way back until you find a 12V signal.  If your harness that connects to the bulb shows 12 volts, then the problem is still with the bulb.  Else, this may be an issue with a loose connection or bad relay.  If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, you can have a mechanic do it.
Good luck!
