Mitsubishi Repair: SES LIGHT, crank angle sensor, mitsubishi lancer

Question
I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer and this morning when I was going to work, I was waiting at a stop light and when it turned green I went to go and my engine started sputtering out and to stop it I tried pressing the gas pedal harder and that is when my SES LIGHT came on.
I don't know why but about everytime I put my car I first gear and try to accelerate it will sputter for a sec. or two.  Do you think you can help me out with this problem??

Answer
Darrin: Got an AutoZone close by? They will code your car for free, could be you have a weak sensor or a sensor that is bad. When it the last time you did a tune up? In the distributor cap is a sensor that is the crank angle sensor, could be you have bad stark plugs, stark wires or a bad rotor. If you have your car coded it will show up any thing that should be replaced. Other wise I would do a tune up. Hope this helps and good luck!
