Mitsubishi Repair: Oil Leak, valve cover gasket, gasket seal

Question
In my 1993 1.8 Manual Eclipse, there is an oil leak that leaks on to my alternator.  Is that what is causing the belts to break or slip off and the obnoxious squealing noise?  I've had the head gasket seal replaced but it still leaks, is there somewhere else it could be coming from?  And is it fixable? Is it a good idea to change my alternator after I fix the problem?

Answer
Morgan: Did you let the shop know that replaced your head gasket that you still had the oil leak? As I would go back to them about this, but I am thinking if the oil is getting on your alternator that your valve cover gasket is leaking. I have that same problem with my van. And yes it is fixable, it could cause your belts to slip off, don't know about breaking. Could be if your belt is breaking it is not the right belt or it is on there to tight or your alternator is going. If your atlernator works ok, in that it keeps the battery charged up, I would not replace it. You would be surprise at all the things that the alternator has to put up when the engine is running. But then that is up to you. But try the valve cover gasket, as that is very close to your alternator on your car. Hope this helps and good luck!
