Mitsubishi Repair: Eclipse Tranny, clutch slips, worn clutch

Question
Hello,Iam having trouble with my tranny. The troblem is that my engine is reving up to high but the car is barely advancing. And i dong know if its the clucth, the flywheel thats needs to be resuface,oh that the tranny is no good?

Answer
Carlos: Always go with the less of two evils here. I mean let us think it is just something wrong with the clutch. Not as costly. My book has this list for you to check... "clutch slips(engine speed increases with no increase in vehicle speed)".. clutch plate worn, clutch plate is oil soaked from rear main seal, clutch not seated( if a new one takes 30 or 40 normal starts for a new one to seat), could be needing a new clutch... faulty pressure plate and pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts loose. These are things to check. You need to go out to a parts store and buy yourself a repair manual. They cost around $20.00 and are well worth the money. If you buy a Haynes they will have a trouble shooting page in which to look at to see what you can check. Hope this helps and good luck!
