Mitsubishi Repair: Mirage 1997 - Turn Signal problem, turn signal flasher, haynes repair manual

Question
All turn signals stopped working all of a sudden since yesterday. Hazard lamps work ok and they blink as normal. I checked all fuses (inside and outside) and they looked fine and I want to check the turn signal flasher. But, where is the flasher? Do I have to take off the dashboard, or do you think the problem is the switch (the turn signal handle)? My husband is a college student with Navy electronics on his back, is there any test points (on the handle bar switch) that he can check for continuity?  Since the Handlebar switch is $75 to replace, we do not want to buy a new one before find out that it was not the culprit.  So in a nutshell, I turned on my car, the blinker, radio, and heater where already on from the last time I drove...I Pushed the handlebar turn signal down to turn it off...then I turned off the heater...then I turned off the radio and continued to drive as normal.  5 minutes down the road, I found out that the turn signal would not click on and off.  I checked the users manual and checked the dashboard light bulbs as well but everything clicks and lights as normal when I push the HAZARD light switch.  Can you help me in avoiding a $75 mistake?

Answer
Could be a bad relay, sensor or a short. Best bet is to get husband with a voltmeter and your repair manual as to know what reading you should be getting. Start with the battery and work yourself through the whole car, you will find the problem. Oh you need to get a "repair manual", you can buy one at any parts store for around $20.00 and it will explain the readings you need for your car. It will also have a wiring diagram. Also I was reading in my book and it says that it could be a fautly flasher unit, broken switch  or loose or open connection. Also could be something broke in your steering column too. Get a Haynes repair manual, they walk your through things and have pictures too. Hope this helps and good luck! Also Merry Christmas....
