Mitsubishi Repair: engine, oil changes, merry christmas

Question
Hi i have a 4g63 turbo and i would like to know what causes the oil to turn black in a matter of a week in a freshly rebuild motor and black as in very very black?

Answer
Matt: You said the engine is freshly rebuilt. The oil is what keeps everything moving inside an engine. It also cleans the engine, the oil starts to break down as soon as you start the engine. So I believe the oil will do this for a while as it cleans your engine insides. You might have to do a bit closer oil changes for a bit. I change my car's oil every 3000 miles but with a new rebuilt engine you might have to do it a bit sooner for a bit. As long as the car runs good, does not burn a lot of oil and all you are getting is the color change in the oil. I would keep an eye on it and change it often, my book says about 500 to 800 miles. Then change it again at 2000 miles. But I would not worry about it. I will check around with some of my friends that work on cars and see what they tell me. And will get back to you, if it is different than what I told you. Hope this helps and good luck. But also Merry Christmas....
