Mitsubishi Repair: 1988 Mits van wont start, open throttle, timming

Question
I have an 1988 Mits van that will only start at wide open throttle and when it starts it only seems to be running on the # 1 hole and if you remove the plug wire it will quit. the timming is set correctly and it has normal and even compression on all 4 cyl The engine is a 2.4 g64b any ideas THANKS

Answer
Doug: Have you had the computer checked for this van? It seems that Mitsubishi farmed out the building of their computers to another company. And these computers go bad, often show up with this kind of problem. Could be a weak sensor someplace too. Either go to AutoZone and they will code your van for free. Or else get a voltmeter and a repair manual to know what the reading should be; then check the van starting from the battery all the way through the engine. How are your stark plugs wires?  The repair manual can be bought at most parts stores for around $20.00 or check at your library they often have them too. Hope this helps and good luck!
