Mitsubishi Repair: engine misfire cylindars 2 & 4, camshaft position sensor, mitsubishi mirage

Question
Hello,
About 5 months ago after my Mitsubishi Mirage reached 60,000 miles - I had a mechanic my spark plugs for the first time (I do not remember any problems before this).  A few weeks later my car started sputtering and missing.  The engine light eventually went on so I took it to Auto zone and they said i had a misfire in Cylinder 2.  My father and I removed the plugs and that plug looked to be gapped incorrectly and looked discolored.  Long story short we replaced all the plugs with new platinum plugs.  The car seemed fine until now, it started messing up again and the Autozone test found a misfire in cylinder 4.  We took out the plugs again, 2 and 4 looked awful so we replaced them again, my car is still misfiring and the engine light went on again....help...

Answer
Naomi:You need to replace a sensor, it is called the camshaft position sensor. You should buy yourself a repair manual for your car. You can get one at any parts store for around $20.00 and it will explain all about these sensors. This sensor is in the distributor and you must replace the distributor to change the sensor. Then have the car coded again and see what that tells you. AutoZone should be able to reset your computer too. But get that repair manual and you will understand all this better. Hope this helps and good luck!
