Mitsubishi Repair: 1994 Eclipse GS, camshaft sprockets, crankshaft balance

Question
I have the above vehicle, but I want to know how to align the camshaft sprockets and does it matter how you install the sensor on the intake camshaft.

Answer
Taro,
To properly align the cam sprockets, you need to make sure the crankshaft, balance shaft and oil sprocket are all properly alighed as well.  There is a notch on each cam sprocket and when those are aligned, along with the alignment of the crankshaft sprocket, balance shaft sprocket and oil sprocket to their respective marks, that means the engine is at Top Dead Center (TDC).  It does matter how you install the intake cam sensor.  But you should only do this when your engine is properly timed, and it helps when your engine is at TDC.

Most auto parts stores sell service manuals for your Eclipse for about $10-$15.  I'd recommend getting one of those manuals before trying to set anything blindly.  If you improperly time your engine and you try to start it, you could ruin your engine head, including several internal engine components.
Good luck!
