Mitsubishi Repair: 1992 mitsubishi eclipse starting, intake air temperature, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
When the cars sat overnight and is cold, I turn the key and it keeps cranking and catches rpms for a second then dies, i turn it over again catches for a second then dies, I continue doing this and when-ever i push the pedal down to make the rpm stay up,... it dies.. then i finally get it to burn gas and rev it up high till the oil warms up and then the idle stays up and it doesn't die. Then when i turn it off it sometimes starts right up but sometimes just keeps cranking and never turns on, even though the engine is warm. Then I start to smell gas.. But i can push start it... only when the engines warm. Please i Need HELP!! I have a Hayes book but doesn't say anything about it...

Answer
Bill: You got a sensor out, I would say maybe a intake air temperature one or something on this order. The computer is not getting what it needs to make the engine run right. Or the computer is bad, you need to have your car tested so checking the codes or you can use a ohmmeter to check it yourself. AutoZone will check your car for free to see what sensors are out and how the computer is reading things. Look in your book in the Chapter that covers Emissions and engine control systems it should explain a lot of this to you. Hope this helps and good luck!
