Mitsubishi Repair: 99 mitsubishi eclipse transmission nightmare, eclipse spyder, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
this is great---my car is an eclipse spyder '99 non/turbo  2.0.  I bought my eclipse spyder in july.  Three days after i bought the car, while driving on the freeway it seemed to jump--get stuck in 3rd while  i was doing about 75 it went down to 60 and the check engine light came on.  I had it scanned they told me that it was a transmission code.  I took it to the dealership they sent me to a local transmission shop that works for them--they immediatley said that i needed a new transmission--they rebuilt the transmission--while driving it home it did the same thing-- they told me that it was trying to shift into 2 gears at the same time.  They said they would fix it -- well long story short i have been back there 6 times--they told me its electrical and this last time they had my car for 25 days--said they wanted to get it right-- well i have the same problem  I called the dealership they said that i have to deal with the transmission shop--i asked if they knew how to fix this car--they said they are tired of dealing with my car-- i have thought of saving up and taking my car to a mitsubishi dealership just to get it right but --again its under warranty  this car is beautiful i love it it will drive with the o/d off-- but the rpms get high first is there any solution i can pass on to them i have to keep going to this place as my warranty is with them--and secondly can i keep driving in o/d without hurting my car and can i take it on say a 5-6 hour trip driving it like this

Answer
Tyrone,
You can continue to drive the car with the O/D off without problems, just as long as you don't get into the redline.  You'll want to stick with a strict schedule of getting an oil change every 5000 miles or so since your engine will be revving at higher RPMs for a longer period of time.  The biggest downfall of driving with the O/D off is that your gas mileage will drop.

This problem does sound electrical and may just require a new electrical harness, O/D switch, and/or new transmission control unit.  If the dealership you want to take your car to doesn't want to work on your car, they can refuse service and just turn you away.  The non-turbo Spyder is more of a Chrysler than a Mitsubishi anyway.  It uses a Chrysler engine and it's 7+ years old, so it may not be worth their time to trouble with it.  If you really want a dealership to work on the car, you may have luck asking the service department at your local Chrysler dealership and see if they'd be willing to work on your car.
Good luck!
