Mitsubishi Repair: Service Engine Light, eclise, resale value

Question
I have a 97 Eclise which I have owned since 99. The service engine light came on within the first week of owning the car. Several trips back to the dealer resulted in the dealer reseting the light and saying that no codes where found indicating a problem. Within a week and often a day or so, the light comes back on. The car runs excellent today as it has since I bought it in 99 with 14,000 miles on it. It now has just turned 100,000 miles. I have  brought the car to several dealers and two local garages for diagnostics over the years and everyone has agreed with the origional dealer, No codes, No problems.... It's just the light, if it runs fine dont worry about it. Now comes the problem....The new emmision regulations for my state wont allow a passing sticker for a car with a service engine light on.  When I reset the light it always goes back on either just before or at the testing station. This will greatly reduce the resale value of the car without a valid emmision sticker. Do you know of any problems with this system and/or recomend disabling this light? If so how.

Answer
your engine light comes on when the computer detects something isnt right...but dont get me wrong there can still be a short that may cause engine light to come on! Go to this web site listed below it will help you see exactlly what your computer is saying/meaning!
You can take the engine light bulb out behind the dash!!!
