Mitsubishi Repair: Master clutch cylinder, clutch fluid, clutch cylinder

Question
I have a 4cyl 2000 mitsu eclipse GS. The master clutch cylinder was replaced about 4 monthes ago because the black rubber piece on there was allowing air in. About two monthes ago the clutch started to depress lose again, then not work at all and the slave cylinder was then replaced with a dealer part. Now the clutch will just all of sudden go lose again when driving, I try pumping it but that usually does not work. It seems if I let the car sit for a little bit the clutch will regain pressure. Is the master cylinder letting air in again, maybe?

Answer
Christine,
This does sound like there is air in the line.  The master cylinder that was replaced 4 months ago should be inspected again.  If this was a new master cylinder from the dealership, and it's faulty, there is a 1 year warranty on it, and you should be able to get another one for free.  If it was a used or rebuilt master cylinder, it may be failing again.  The springs, pistons, or seals within a used or rebuilt cylinder may be at their end of life.

It's also possible the wrong type of clutch fluid was used.  You may want to have the system bled again to be sure there is not any air in the system.
Good luck!
