Mitsubishi Repair: Sell car for parts?, auto salvage yards, mitsubishi galant

Question
Hello,
I own a 1997 Mitsubishi Galant ES (automatic) which was in excellent condition before I recently was in a pretty bad car accident which left me with repairs more expensive than the car's worth. I was considering selling my car for parts, but was wondering if it'd be worth it. How much could I realistically get if most of the front part of the car is gone? And also how difficult would it be to take the car apart? If not sell it for parts, what would be my best option to get as much money as possible? I don't know much at all about cars so I hope I was able to provide you with enough information to answer my questions. Thank you so much for any help you can provide!

Answer
Crystal,
You can contact local auto salvage yards (check your yellow pages) and ask them what they could offer you for your car.  They may buy your car as is, and part it out themselves.  You can also check your local charities and donate your car.  The Kidney Foundation offers true market value for your car in the form of a donation receipt and you can claim that as a deduction in your next years taxes.  They will also tow your car away for you for free.

The most valuable parts of the car are within the engine compartment.  But if the front end is pretty badly damaged, you will not make much money trying to part out the car yourself. You'll probably have the least amount of hassle and better money offer by selling/donating it as a whole.
Good luck!
