Mitsubishi Repair: 1997 Galant will not start, distributer cap, fusible links

Question
I have a 1997 Galant ES.  My wife was driving and got about a half mile down the road and it just died.  I have checked the timing belt it is intact, I replaced the Distributer cap/rotor button.  There is still no spark.  My next guess is the CPS.  Is there any way to test before replacing?  Also how difficult is this to replace?

I think this is an exceptional service you guys provide.  Thank you for your professional input.

Answer
Richard,
The crank angle position sensor is located near the crank itself.  It has another connection that, I believe, attaches to the distributor.  If you have a service manual for your car, you may be able to at least test the connections on the harness for resistance tolerances.  In order to replace it, you may need to remove several components on the front of the engine in order to access the CPS.  A new CPS is about $75.

If you're not getting any spark, you should check all your fuses and fusible links.  It's possible as well that the fuel pump has failed.  If the fuel pump died, it would have blown a fusible link and prevented any spark.  You should also have your car's computer inspected to see if there is any damage.
Good luck!
