Mitsubishi Repair: Mitsubishi Montero Alarm Malfunction, 2003 mitsubishi montero, mitsubishi montero

Question
I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Anniversary Edition.  We bought it used and it did not come with a remote alarm/lock/unlock.  Therefore we never set the alarm because we can't physically do so. My wife drove to the store and turned off the car and opened the car door to exit and the horn alarm triggered.  It went off in about 4 minutes; however the alarm goes off every time you open the door.  I took the cable off the battery to dismantle the alarm however, if you replace the cable the alarm triggers again.  Do you know if the alarm is re-setable?

Answer
Ryan,
If this is the factory alarm system, I cannot think of any way to reset the alarm (disarm it) without using the remote entry controller.  The remote entry controller will disarm the factory alarm when the unlock button is pushed.  You can check your owners manual to see if there's an alternative manner in disarming the alarm.  But in my experience with other newer Japanese cars, you can only disarm the factory alarm using the remote entry controller.

You can contact your local dealership with the VIN and proof of registration to order a new key fob.  It would be best to go to the dealership in person to the parts department.  This may be your only solution.
Good luck!
