Mitsubishi Repair: Mitsubishi eclipse grinding noise, clutch friction, clutch replacement

Question
96 mitsubishi eclipse 2.0 manual

I am hearing a grinding noise most of the time when I start my car.  I thought it was mostly on cold days but I have noticed that it sounds like metal grinding at first then the noise usually goes away after about3-4 minutes.  Recenctly I started up car and it made same noise and I pressed my foot on the clutch while in nuetral and noise went away.  So i thought it was only during start up but actually noise will go away if i press on clutch.

Answer
Chad,
This may be a result of the fingers on the clutch pressure plate bending and scraping against the clutch friction plate.  When pressing on the clutch pedal, this is pulling the pressure plate away from the friction plate and you'll stop hearing it.  If your clutch has over 60,000 miles on it, and you do typical 'around the town' driving in it daily, you may need a clutch replacement soon.
Good luck!
